Core Evaluation & Acceptance Policy
At OS Transmissions, all transmission cores received for rebuild or remanufacturing are subject to inspection and evaluation prior to service approval. Core condition directly affects rebuild feasibility, required replacement components, labor requirements, and final service cost.
Because transmission damage can vary significantly depending on operating conditions, overheating, contamination, prior repairs, or catastrophic failure, all units are evaluated individually by OS Transmissions.

🔍 Core Evaluation Process
Upon receipt of a transmission core, OS Transmissions performs an inspection which may include:
- External case inspection
- Fluid contamination assessment
- Preliminary teardown evaluation
- Internal hard-part inspection
- Heat damage and seizure inspection
- Identification of missing or previously damaged components
- Evaluation of prior repair or rebuild work
Final core classification is determined only after inspection by OS Transmissions.

💵 Core Evaluation & Teardown Fee
All transmission cores are subject to a teardown and evaluation fee.
This fee covers:
- Initial inspection
- Diagnostic teardown labor
- Internal damage assessment
- Failure analysis
- Core classification and rebuild feasibility determination
Evaluation and teardown fees apply regardless of whether the transmission is approved for rebuild, declined, or determined to be non-rebuildable.

🟢 Acceptable Core Condition
A core is considered acceptable when:
- The transmission case is structurally intact and serviceable
- Internal hard components are reusable or replaceable
- The unit can be properly disassembled and inspected
- No severe heat distortion or catastrophic case damage is present
- Contamination levels do not prevent proper rebuilding procedures
Acceptable cores proceed through standard rebuild procedures and pricing.

🟡 Partial Core Condition
(Additional Parts & Labor May Apply)
A core may be classified as partial when:
- Internal hard parts are damaged or broken
- Gears, drums, shafts, hubs, or related components require replacement
- Additional labor is required beyond standard rebuild scope
- Prior damage or previous repairs increase rebuild complexity
- Missing components must be sourced or replaced
Partial cores remain rebuildable; however, additional charges may apply depending on component availability, labor requirements, and damage severity.

🔴 Non-Rebuildable Core Condition
A core may be classified as non-rebuildable when:
- The transmission case is cracked, warped, or structurally unusable
- Severe overheating has caused metal distortion or fused internal components
- Internal seizure prevents proper teardown or inspection
- Water intrusion or corrosion has extensively damaged the unit
- Catastrophic damage prevents safe or reliable rebuilding
Non-rebuildable units may require replacement cases, replacement cores, or alternative transmission sourcing.

📦 Missing or Incomplete Cores
If a transmission core is received incomplete or missing components, OS Transmissions may:
- Document missing components during inspection
- Source replacement parts when available
- Apply additional charges for missing, damaged, or unusable components

Transmission cores will be returned to the customer upon request.
If a core is not requested for return, OS Transmissions reserves the right to dispose of or scrap severely damaged, abandoned, or non-serviceable units.
